A few marks

I put a few more marks on this piece. I have plans to make this piece thick. It is thin right now, but it will be thick. I've been spending time at the computer, organizing my image files. It's no excuse but that's what I'm offering.

  1. I like where this piece is going. I'm impressed by the use of perspective; it shows how narrow the streets in Italy are compared to the mass of the buildings. I’m curious to see what the light gray sketch lines on the right will turn into. I like the detail in the subject, the streetlamp and the window inside the arch, paired with the subtle brush work and subdued colors.

  3. hey,

i noticed that in the first picture of this piece there were sketchings of windows on the right hand wall. but it appears that later u decided to do away with them.is there anyreason for this?possibly you were looking for a more enclosed and personal feel?or mayb its simply because u wanted to elongate the alley by making the walls less active.well, wutever it was, i was just curious and i think the earthy colors u chose are very effective at showing the homey earthy feel of Italy, and i like the rustic feeling it brings to me. thanks!

  4. The use of perspective in this piece is excellent. It really sets the mood that it's somewhere the viewer is not familiar with. The long passageway and the obvious focal point leads you to the intended destination. The colors give the viewer a comfortable feeling, with cool colors being used, and the smoothly blended shadows add to the calm factor of this painting. The light at the destination point is also very well done, I feel like I could walk down this passage and right into the light of a bustling street.

  5. Even though this painting does not involve a lot of lively colors, I enjoy it because the eye is automatically drawn into one particular place then it the surrounding is noticed. I noticed from starting to scratch to the following week, you took out one of the light fixtures. I think it added depth and perspective. Was there a specific reason why you remove it? Also i enjoy the earthy tones you used. How did you decide what hues you were going to work with? Why not brighter colors, or more of a variety?

  6. I too like this piece so far. It has lots of potential and i already like the design. The colors are deep and i think you can go far with them. Im wondering too though if you are going to put people in this picture or not. I think the scene looks like a foreign eurpopean ally somewhere, and I can just see some people. I hope you come up with something cool and exciting and I can't wait to see it
