The Califronia Theatre

So, week three of painting outside has proven a little less satisfying than week two, but I like this challenge. We decided last week that we would take a brush at the California theatre.
Next week, I'll be back for more because there is potential for this painting.

  1. I like the first week of this painting and i'm interested to see how it changes in the next week. But what about this particular theatre sparked your interest? I notice the outline of some grand arches on the front and to me it looks more like a cathedral. Do you know when this theatre was built? I was also curious as to how you determine which colors to apply first because in other paintings it looks like some of the colors change drastically from week to week.

  3. Hi! I really like your work. Im not able to talk about it as well as I like, but I think this work looks really cool. Im only a High School student, but I appreciate art and that I can look at a picture and just enjoy it.

  4. When I first saw this painting in class, I fell in love with it. It reminded me of one of the buildings in this older city in Georgia where the center of town was an antique strip with shops where you could buy antiques or paintings. I really like the colors that you have used so far, and I think your an amazing artist. i just wanted to know what made you decide to use this subject as the focal point of your painting?

  5. Hi. First I want to say that I like where this piece is going. I've never been to California, or even seen a theatre like that before, yet it seems oddly familiar. Weird. Anyways, I was curious as to why you use such loose brushwork in this painting. Is it because your not done with it yet, or is it because your trying to convey a dreamlike feel?
